Meet Katie Edwards; she is a rising sophomore majoring in Marketing from Fort Worth, TX. She is involved with many registered student organizations on campus, many of which focus on service and academics while others focus on building connections and relationships between students. She is a student of the Sam M. Walton College of Business and also plans to minor in public relations. She is looking forward to meeting and interacting with all of the students and parents as a Parent Ambassador.

As a freshman I often found myself with time on my hands. More often than not, once I had gotten done with all of my assignments I was at a loss with what to do with my free time. It was a dilemma I often faced until I learned how to make the most of my free time here in Fayetteville.

There are many activities that students can do to keep them busy in town and around campus, based on their interests. If your student is interested in outdoor activities, they and a few friends can take a weekend camping trip out to Devil’s Den. Devil’s Den is a state park just outside of Fayetteville that is perfect for hiking, biking, and camping. Any outdoor adventurer would be more than satisfied with this park as it gives them a way to explore parts of the Ozarks. If your student wants to enjoy some kayaking or canoeing around Fayetteville, they can rent that type of equipment from University Recreation. Equipment can range anywhere from camping supplies to bikes.

If your student isn’t an outdoors expert there are plenty of other things to do in and around Fayetteville. There is the farmer’s market every weekend that is often a big draw for students. There is also the Walmart Amp in Rogers, where many concerts and events are held. Your student could catch a show in their downtime with some friends. Also in Rogers there is the Promenade which is an amazing outdoor mall. They have a wide variety of stores that would be sure to interest any student who is looking to kill a little time.

All in all, the Fayetteville area has an abundance of things to do for a student who wants to fill any free time they might have.
