One of the biggest concerns as a parent is if your student will have fun on campus and build their resume with fun extra-curriculars. Getting involved at the University of Arkansas is very easy and very do-able! In the union, there will always be something going on, whether it’s campus involvement fairs, or people to help your student get involved. There are always booths ranging from different sporting teams to science clubs, if there is something your student is interested in, there is a club for it. Let’s begin…
Greek Life is one of the biggest communities that students join while at the University of Arkansas. If your student is looking for a place where they do community service for a specific cause, hangout with people who are very similar but also so different, and to meet new people who are also involved in Greek life, it is the place for your student. Now this is not for everybody, and even though it is quite popular, it is very important to remind your student that there is so much more than going Greek. The university of Arkansas has over 410 Registered Student Organizations that your student can get involved in.
SOOIE is an organization that helps your student find what their niche is, you can schedule an interview with someone who is in SOOIE and they help match you with whatever RSO peaks your interest. This is a great way for your student who may be a little timid to go and reach out to any clubs.
Intramurals: If your student was very sporty in high school or they just want to be active while in college, intramurals are a great way to meet new people and get their sweat on! It is not very competitive, if your student is worried about not being very good at the sport, but if they are looking for something more on the competitive side then club sports is also a very good go-to!
The University of Arkansas has so many ways that your student can get involved, it is hard at first. Everything is new, and scary and being away from home is always weird. But if you, as a parent, know ways that you can help your student while they are in times of confusion, then it will motivate them to actually do it. Tell your student to get involved, it could change their passion and they can meet their best friends!
