Razorback families the time has come for our 2016 University of Arkansas homecoming! Make sure to mark your calendars that this years’ homecoming week is from October 9 to October 15. The Arkansas Alumni Association and Student Alumni Board put on the weeks events filled with lots of traditions and fun. I encourage you to try and come to Fayetteville at some point during this week or on the weekend for the homecoming football game!

We will kick off homecoming activities on Sunday, October 9 with the third annual Color Those Hogs 5k. This event was created in 2014 by our homecoming committee that year and has been a big hit ever since! What it is you ask? It is a color run through downtown Fayetteville and is open to whoever would like race, all the proceeds will go toward student scholarships.

Throughout the rest of the week (October 10-13) there is fun activities set up for students to participate in throughout campus! Some of the more common ones from last year are the blood drive, collection of cans that will be donated to the shelter at the of the week, and much more! Encourage your student to participate in all the fun activities throughout the week.

On Friday, October 14 we have the three largest Homecoming events!

The first one that we will start with is the Senior Walk Dedication, where the Class of 2015 graduates can come back to campus with their friends and families and see their ever-lasting legacy engraved on senior walk!

The next event will happen later in the afternoon and it is the Dickson Street Parade! This event is a popular event that gets the entire community of Fayetteville involved. Since the parade runs down Dickson Street, people will line up the sidewalks and sit at the top of restaurants to watch the parade come up the street. The parade involves Homecoming court, Greek float, The Razorback Marching Band, Spirit Squads and so much more! The parade will end at the Greek Theater, which is where our next event will take place, the Pep Rally! This is a time to come and see how much Razorback Spirit your student and the community has!

The last day of homecoming is Saturday, October 15. This day will include the Razorback Football game against Ole Miss. During halftime at the game will be announced who won the homecoming court.

This is one of my favorite events during the year because it shows how much razorback pride this school and community has! If you have time to make it to Fayetteville, I would strongly encourage you to come and see what the hype and traditions are all about!
