Meet Cady Milam! She is involved in CRU and International Culture Team (ICT). Her hobbies include painting, sketching, and reading comics. Cady’s most memorable U of A experience was the R.O.C.K Camp float trip!

If your Razorback has any dietary restrictions, the dining halls and several local restaurants will accommodate him/her. The campus dining website, news.dineoncampus.com, shows all of the dining options on the UofA campus. Each establishment has a copy of their menu for the day on the website. The three dining halls have symbols on the menu for vegan, vegetarian, and sustainable options. The website also contains business hours for each location and news about changes in the dining halls. When students need to address dietary needs, they can contact the director of the dining hall. The contact information for each dining hall director can be found on the housing website, housing.uark.edu.

There are also many off-campus options for students with certain dietary needs. Many restaurants are within walking distance of campus or on a bus route. Parking is available nearly everywhere for students with cars, bicycles, scooters, or motorcycles, but watch out for those parking meters!

The Taco Bell on M.L.K. Jr. Blvd. has vegetarian options. If a student requests that his/her order be “Fresco Style,” the cheese will be replaced with vegetables. Rice and potatoes can also be added to any order for a small charge. Arsaga’s at the Depot, located on Dickson St., also has vegan and vegetarian options on their menu. The name of the dish usually says if it’s vegan or not. They even carry vegan sausage, which is made without meat or dairy. Mellow Mushroom on Augustine Ln. has options for vegans and vegetarians. Their pizzas can also be customized to suit your Razorback’s needs. There are many different meat, vegetable, cheese, and sauce options to choose from. All of the Chipotle locations have customizable food options. The staff prepare the taco, burrito, or burrito bowl and allow people to choose what vegetables, meat, dairy, or sauce they would like. Most of the sushi restaurants in and around Fayetteville carry vegetarian rolls, which are sushi rolls that contain rice, soy paper or seaweed, and vegetables. If a restaurant does not label the menu items as vegan or vegetarian or if your student is unsure, it never hurts to ask questions! Wait staff are generally very helpful concerning dietary needs. Whole Foods and Walmart (Supercenter and Neighborhood Market) carry many grocery items that are vegan, vegetarian, or allergy friendly and easy to store or prepare in residence halls. They also have food that is prepared in the store that your student can take home to eat right away.

For further assistance regarding meals and dietary health, students can make an appointment with the on-campus dietitian, Ashley Meek, RDN, LD.  She is a registered dietitian nutritionist and will assist your student in making better nutritional choices and accommodating dietary restrictions. More information about her can be found on the campus dining website along with the link to Food Pig Sooie, a blog with articles about the importance of nutrition and wellness.
