It does not matter if home is five minutes or five hours away: adjusting to college life and living away from home is a change for every student. Some students assimilate into college culture and life easier than others, finding their new home exciting and adventurous. However, other students have a more difficult time and need the support and resources of the University, community, and their family in order to succeed. No matter where your student might be on this spectrum, the Arkansas Union has a variety of resources, departments, and events that can ease the transition into college life and provide a place of stability and familiarity throughout their time at the University of Arkansas.
Food. The Arkansas Union is home to several eating establishments, including the Union Market Food Court, Club Red C-Store, Freshens®, Au Bon Pain Bakery Café®, and a plethora of vending machines. All of the service locations accept Razorbuck$, debit or credit cards, cash, and Flex Dollars, which is a component of the student meal plan. The Union is dedicated to giving students a place to eat, relax, and connect with friends from all across campus.
Friends. Several students would agree that the best way to make friends at the University of Arkansas is to get involved on campus. Everyone has their own way of doing this, but one of the best and easiest ways to get involved on campus is to take advantage of all the opportunities that are located within the Union. Several University departments that encourage on and off campus involvement are located within our building. Have questions? Visit union.uark.edu and view the department list under resources and services—there truly is something for everyone!
Fun. Above everything else, the Arkansas Union is a place where a student can have fun. From the newly added University Recreation Fitness Center and Student Technology Center to hanging out in the Living Room Lounge or out on the newly renovated South Terrace, there is a wide variety of options for students to meet and interact with each other. From art events, movie showings, or late night programs and events, there are daily opportunities for students to engage with each other and with the University that do not involve academic work. We hope to provide a place for students to enjoy their collegiate experience outside of the classroom.
Future. The Union is a place to prepare students for life after graduation. Students are able to take advantage of Career Services that allow them to have mentors, mock interviews, resume revisions, attend career fairs, and so much more. The Volunteer Action Center allows students to volunteer their time and help others on our campus as well as in the Northwest Arkansas Community. These leadership and volunteer activities enhance our students’ academic education and improve their resume with marketable skills.
Visiting your student? Stop by the Arkansas Union! We may have already met you at orientation, but we are always excited to have visitors come through our building. We hope that you and your family can truly agree that the Arkansas Union is the heart of the campus—where students, visitors, and friends feel welcomed at the University of Arkansas.
