Hey, hey, hey, where is your new Razorback going to park today?

If your student is bringing their car with them during their first year, you should definitely read and understand the parking options University of Arkansas has for them you’re your student getting a parking permit they will have four options: orange, green, red, or garage. Orange and Green are more affordable options. Orange permits are very affordable at around $20 your student can park in all of the remote lots on campus – they are further from campus but the bus system allows to students to ride right into campus from these lots. Green permits are around $100 and they allow your student to park in any Student Lot which are marked with green signs. Another option are Red Permits and they represent Resident Reserved Lots, this permit totals around $600 for the year.  These lots are generally outside of residence halls. The other Red Permit option would be a Garage Pass, which allows you to park in one of the assigned garages, either Harmon, Garland, or Stadium. Students may only park in the garage that is on their permit. Garage passes are around $900 for a twelve-month permit, but you can also purchase a nine-month permit for around $600.

In my first year, I used the Green Permit, this allowed me the opportunity to park my car in any green lots. It was very convenient, however it was a long walk back to my residence hall. If your student doesn’t plan to use their car often or wants to get a bit more exercise the Green Permit could be a great option for them!  Green lots also need to be vacated during every home football game, so if your student chooses this option remind them to move their cars on Friday nights. Parking passes can be very useful, and as long as your student reads the signs that are posted outside each lot they will not receive a ticket!  You can find more information at https://parking.uark.edu/parking-services/parking-permits/index.php.

Don’t fear Razorback parent, if your student is not bringing a car, that’s okay, we will also talk about transit today!

University of Arkansas has provided Razorback Transit to give transportation to your student for free. Students can ride the Razorback Transit buses throughout the area – there routes extend both on and off campus so you can travel to many places in Fayetteville.  Information, routes, and times of arrival can be found at https://parking.uark.edu/transit-services/transit-operations/index.php ! Students can also use Safe Ride in times when they do not feel safe enough to walk back to their residence halls. I started my job off campus during my second semester, and I would arrive back to campus around 11:30pm. At that time, it was very dark so once I parked my car in the green lot I would call Safe Ride to take me back to my residence hall! It was very convenient, safe, and fast! Their number is provided on every student ID. Transit runs on-campus Monday and Tuesday from 10:30pm to 1:00am and city-wide Wednesday through Saturday 11:00pm to 3:00am,  with no service on Sunday. You can find more details about Safe Ride at https://parking.uark.edu/transit-services/safe-ride/index.php.
