At the University of Arkansas there are often many things to keep students entertained as well as help enrich their minds. One of the many amazing activities that are offered here at the university is the Distinguished Lecture Series. This series is awesome way for students to meet and interact with prominent figures from around the world. The lectures range from celebrities to political and social activists to former presidents.
Speakers for the Distinguished Lecture Series are chosen by a committee comprised of students and faculty so student interests are always considered when deciding who to bring on campus. Speakers from past years have included John Legend, Bill Nye, Jane Goodall, Condoleezza Rice, the Dalai Lama, and former President George H. W. Bush. You can see from the previous line up that the series has an established sense of prestige that showcases the kind of environment that can be experienced here at the University of Arkansas. There is discussion on the importance of science, art, advocacy, politics, and diversity at these events that can be said to be unparalleled. The Distinguished Lecture Series brings in the cultures and ideas of a wide set of minds that help to enrich our community here.
If your student wants to become involved with the series and help to continue this tradition of bringing in inspiring individuals to benefit the campus community then he or she can visit the following website: osa.uark.edu/lectures/. There they will find applications and more information on how to get involved with putting together these events. If your student would like to know when these events will take place in order to attend, they can also check the same website for upcoming lectures and an option to subscribe to an emailing list that will send updates about applications and upcoming events. If your student does not visit the website for upcoming events, there are also typically flyers in the Arkansas Union to promote.
