As an incoming freshman, the most difficult part was meeting new people. There are more than twenty- five thousand students enrolled on campus, which makes it more difficult to make new friends. The day I walked into to the Multicultural Center was the day, that my shy bubble burst and I truly felt like myself again. The Multicultural Center has so many different types of students from various backgrounds, either studying or building connections with one another. This diverse environment allows for students to grow into culturally educated leaders not just on campus, but in their future career as well.
The Multicultural Center has many departments and programs to assist and help your student. The center provides free tutoring for core classes that students may be struggling in. The tutors are fellow students who have taken the class and many others like it and have become experts in the subject. There are also study cubicles that are available for students have a private and quiet place to focus and study. Further, the center also provides many different events with inspirational speakers that will encourage your students to follow their dreams. The last speaker was a native from Kenya, Africa, Emmanuel Kavumbi. He is the founder of the Global Center for Professional Development and Excellence. His powerful story and experiences encouraged students to never give up and to become successful.
Lastly the Multicultural Center provides a family away from home: It provides people who truly care about you. The Staff members become your best friends. The Director of the office is so kind and thoughtful that she opened her home on Thanksgiving for students who couldn’t go home. The Center feels like a home and I truly encourage all parents to discuss the benefits of the Multicultural center to their student. It will absolutely impact your student life.
