Everybody has heard that the best way for your student to feel connected and happy at school is for them to get involved. They learned it in high school, and they will learn it again in
college. Students involved in RSOs, sports, volunteering, and more are often much more successful than their uninvolved counterparts. Your student is not only building their resume, but they are making connections that will help them get a job in the future and give them friendship in the present. At the University of Arkansas, we have hundreds of RSOs, or Registered Student Organizations, that your student can get involved with.
There are RSOs ranging from pre-medical societies to religious clubs. It is highly likely that your student will find a RSO or two that peeks their interest and helps them grow as a person, but if they have an idea for a new RSO, they can register to start their own. The application for RSOs for the next year closes on September 15th. I strongly encourage your student to join an RSO, and it is very easy to do so. Many require a small fee to sustain the RSO for the year. There is list of all of the student organizations at the University of Arkansas at http://osa.uark.edu/registered-student-organizations/ . Joining an RSO varies depending on the organization, but your student can find the information about each specific RSO at the link above.
