It’s that time of year again, everyone! It’s time for Family Weekend!! Family weekend is one of the best opportunities for parents and families of students here at the University of Arkansas to come and experience the U of A during the fall semester, and to watch the Razorbacks beat Texas State while you’re here! If this is your first time experiencing Family Weekend here, then we are so excited that you will be joining us this weekend!! In case you need them, we’ve got a short list of Do’s and Don’ts for this weekend!

DO Show up as early as you can!

We know how much you hate waiting in long lines, just to check in to an event. That’s why we added a whole extra day to our Family Weekend check in!! Check in for Family Weekend will begin at 1:00 pm on Thursday and go through 5:00pm that night. Then we will open up check in again on Friday at 1:00pm and go all the way through 10:00 pm. That gives you plenty of opportunities to check in for Family Weekend! Now I’m going to let you in on a little secret. We don’t tell everyone this, so this can just be between me and you. Typically, check in for Family Weekend is the busiest between 3:00pm-7:00pm on Friday. If you show up during that time, you might have to wait in a pretty long line! Showing up on Thursday will be your best bet to not have to wait very long, but showing up at 1:00 on Friday should be pretty good, as well! Now I’m not guaranteeing you won’t have to wait in line, but I know for a fact that in the past this has been true! So definitely show up as early as you can!

DON’T Miss out on any of our awesome events!

You’ve invested some money into the New Student and Family Programs office in order to attend all of the incredible events we have planned for Family Weekend, so be sure to go to all of them! We would absolutely hate for you to have to miss anything we have planned for you and your family! In order to stay in-the-know on what all is going on during Family Weekend, check out the schedule at http://parents.uark.edu/family-events/family-weekend-schedule.php !

DO Come see “The Commodores”!

That’s right, you read correctly! The Commodores will be performing live in concert at 8:00pm on Thursday night. The concert is being held in the East Baum Stadium Parking Lot. Doors open at 6:00 pm, so be sure to have finished your check in for Family Weekend by then! You don’t want to miss out on this special event, so be sure to get to campus early enough to check in and eat dinner by the time the doors open!

DON’T Forget to stop by our Silent Auction!

We will be having a Silent Auction from 2:00pm-10:00pm on Friday afternoon! We have all kinds of great items and packages up for auction that you can bid on! Several businesses from around Fayetteville have donated packages or items to our silent auction, and we have several that contain great Razorback gear and swag (and even a couple of signed memorabilia items as well)! All proceeds from this auction go towards the PPA Book scholarships that our office gives out annually, so not only will you be bidding on some incredible items, your money will be going to an amazing place as well!!

DO Have a great time with your family and CALL THOSE HOGS!

This event is an incredible opportunity for you to spend some time with your whole family here in Fayetteville and at the University of Arkansas, so don’t miss out on the memories that you can be making this weekend! Hopefully this list will help make your time here one to remember, if you have any questions please feel free to find a Parent Ambassador and ask! But most importantly, don’t forget to cheer on our Razorback Football team as they take on Texas State Saturday night!!
